Homework
  • Finish revising the second draft of the essay (If you've already submitted a draft, there is no need to submit again. Just make the changes you feel are necessary based on editing)
  • Preview IR/group reading options for Q4- You ARE NOT required to make a selection, only research: The Kite Runner, Into Thin Air, Their Eyes Were Watching God, Different Seasons, Maus/Maus II, The Illustrated Man, The Great Gatsby, or The Things They Carried.

  1. Do Now: Attach Quarter 3, Week 10 of 11 to the NEXT PAGE of your notebook. Read and annotate the document using the circle/underline/star/note method.
  2. After: Attach  Things to Avoid When Writing the Research Paper (packet p. 17) to the NEXT PAGE of your notebook. Read and annotate the document. While looking at YOUR research paper, use the lined part of the page to write down at least 10 Suggestions from the list that you will use to enhance your essay.
  3. Then: individual work-time for revision and student meetings.

  1. Do Now: Attach Quarter 3, Week 9 of 11 to the NEXT PAGE of your notebook. Read and annotate using the circle/underline/star/note method.
  2. After: ACT Practice- English and Reading sections
  3. Then: Evaluate the Sample A paper for TEXCTing:
    • Topic- one sentence to introduce the main idea of the paragraph
    • Example- one or two pieces of evidence from your research to support the topic (can be flipped with eXplain)
    • eXplain- Explain how each piece of evidence supports the topic (can be flipped with Example)
    • Conclude- one sentence that closes the paragraph (can be merged with the Transition)
    • Transition- one sentence that leads the reader into the next topic (synonyms help)
  4. Next: Timed-writing for Main Point 1 (use slideshow) using TEXCT method

  • Write the Main Point 2, Main Point 3, and counterclaim paragraphs using the TEXCTing method by classtime on Friday

  1. Do Now: Evaluate these Sample Refutation Paragraphs for:
    • Introduce the Opposing Argument
    • Acknowledge the parts that are valid
    • Counter the argument (this is generally where evidence is used)
    • Introduce the conclusion
  2. After: Timed-Writing for the refute paragraph using the method above
  3. Then: Evaluate this Sample Conclusion Paragraph for:
    • Revisits the Value of the Essay
    • Restates the Thesis
    • Reviews Main Points/Counterclaim
    • Leaves the reader thinking
  4. Next: Timed-writing Practice for conclusion paragraph using method learned today
