Classwork
  1. Do Now: Flip to the LAST SECTION of your INB. Attach the Vocabulary instructions to the first page of it. Label the divider VOCABULARY. Read for understanding, annotate, and ask questions if necessary.
  2. After: Attach your hall pass to the INSIDE BACK COVER of your INB using tap- NO glue or staples. Write your name on it. Read for understanding and ask questions if necessary.
  3. Then: Introduction to personal narrative writing with A View from Mount Ritter by Joseph T. O'Connor. Add first word(s) to vocabulary list.
  4. Next: Go back to the first section of your INB and title the next page Understanding the Personal Narrative. Be sure to write today's date. In the time allowed, free write about why you think O'Connor wrote this story.
Target Practice: I understand and can explain what a personal narrative is and why someone might want to write one. Fist-5?
Homework
  • Find at least four more new vocabulary words or phrases and complete the entries in the vocabulary section of your INB for class on Thursday.
  • Arrive to class prepared for the STAR Reading assessment on Thursday

Classwork
  1. Do Now: STAR Reading Assessment and setup tracker on LAST page of the INB
  2. After: Record STAR Score for August, Check-out copy of Into the Wild, look at the covers and map, and read the author's note.
  3. Then: Text Rendering Activity- only finished identifying word, phrase, and sentence (will complete on Monday)
  4. Next: Make INB cover using collaboration animal, greatest hope, greatest fear, and name/course/period/2017-18
Target Practice: I understand and can explain what I need to know and do to be successful in Junior American Literature/Expository Writing. Fist-5?
Homework
  • Finish cover and attach to INB by next class (graded)
  • Read all of Chapters 1 and 2 for next class. Add at least 5 new words to your vocabulary list from the reading. Use a sticky note at the end of each chapter to write a 1-2 sentence summary and a prediction about what might happen next.
Looking Ahead...I still don't know what Existentialism is!
