Due Today: Into the Wild up to Chapter 10
Learning Target: L.11-12.6 Acquire and use accurately new academic and domain specific words and phrases. W.11-12.3 Write narratives to develop real or imagined experiences or events using effective technique, well-chosen details, and well-structured event sequences. RI.11-12.5 Analyze and evaluate the effectiveness of the structure an author uses.
Classwork
  1. Do Now: Fold the blank paper you picked-up on the way in hamburger-style. Fold it over again, so that you have something that looks similar to your nametag. After, listen to instructions. You are making a bookmark for annotation while you read the rest of the book. You may choose what to annotate for from the list (any 4):
    • New or Unfamiliar Vocabulary (required)
    • 4 or more drawings
    • Thought Questions
    • Short Summaries
    • Predictions
    • Favorite Lines
    • Movie, Song, or Game Playlist
  2. After: Look at Google Classroom document for EA 1. Share with a peer for editing OR you may edit your own in Step 3 today.
    • Then: Use the peer editing checklist with a partner to revise your essay. You will leave comments on the person's Google Document using language directly from the editing checklist provided in class

    • Next: Individual meetings with teacher to revise narrative essay.

    • Choose your independent reading option on Google Classroom. Make sure to view, download, or print any documents needed for your option. Have questions prepared for next class. If there are none, I will assume you know what you're doing!

    1. Do Now: Turn to WB p. 326. Read the instructions for Language and Writer's Craft and complete the PRACTICE activity. ONLY AFTER you have completed the practice should you share with an elbow-partner.
    2. After: Final revision time for EA 1. 
      • Self-score with the rubric from last class or posted in Google Classroom. 
      • Using a single comment on your name, give yourself a score for Ideas, Structure, and Language. This should be the ONLY comment on your essay by tonight at midnight.
