Classwork
  1. Do Now: Preview the entire blog post for this week. Title the next page of your INB Quarter 4, Week 7 of 10. In a format that works best for you, use the entire page to organize:
    • today's focus, short-term activities, long-term activities, due dates
    • at the bottom, copy the target practice for today
  2. After: Read the following statement. In your INB, freewrite about what you think Tim O'Brien might by trying to say about war.
    • In any war story, but especially a true one, it’s difficult to separate what happened from what seemed to happen. What seems to happen becomes its own happening and has to be told that way. The angles of vision are skewed.… The pictures get jumbled; you tend to miss a lot. And then afterward, when you go to tell about it, there is always that surreal seemingness, which makes the story seem untrue, but which in fact represents the hard and exact truth as it seemed.
  3. Then: Listen to The Things They Carried by Tim O'Brien (narrated by Bryan Cranston)
    • Enemies, Friends, The Dentist- Looking at literary foils
    • Who are the antagonists? Who are the protagonists? How do the antagonists help you understand the protagonists?

    • Lesson Plan Template available on Google Classroom (only one per group is needed)

  • Begin drafting your EA 2 Multimedia Lesson by yourself, with your partner, or in your group. A draft of the lesson must be created Google Classroom by next class!
  • Continue adding to your INB Vocabulary list of at least 35 words. The final list MUST BE COMPLETE BY FRIDAY @ 2:15.

    • How to Tell a True War Story
  2. After: Expository Writing: Find out the definition of the term surrealism. Freewrite about O'Brien's use of surrealism in The Things They Carried. Where do you see it? Is it effective at helping you 'feel the story in your stomach'? Why? How? 
  3. Then: Group planning and drafting session for EA 2 Multimedia Lesson on Google Classroom
