Monday, September 14
Learning Target: RI.11-12.1 Cite strong and thorough textual evidence to support analysis. W.11-12.5 Develop and strengthen writing as needed by planning, revising, editing, rewriting, or trying a new approach.
Classwork
  1. Do Now: Staple 'Quarter 1, Week 8 of 10' to the LEFT PAGE in your Notebook. Read and annotate the page on your own. Title the RIGHT PAGE Planning: Take time to plan ideas and structure. Write today's date at the top-right corner. Copy today's Target Practice below the title. You will score yourself at the end of class.
  2. After: Turn to p. 339 in the Workbook and respond to the 4 Planning questions in your Notebook.
  3. Then: Work Session for the annotated bibliography OR continue creating your artifacts.
  4. Next: Read and annotate The Nuts and Bolts of the Multi-Genre Research Project on pp. 307-324. You might also choose to use the Unit 4, EA 2: Multi-Genre Research Project rubric as well.
Target Practice: I can use my annotated bibliography to begin crafting the artifacts for my Multi-Genre Research Project. Fist-5?

Wednesday, September 16 (eValuate Testing)
Learning Target: All reading and writing standards tested by the eValuate Test.
Classwork
  1. Do Now: No Notebook or Workbook activities for today.  Login to a Chromebook and click on the eValuate tab to start the test.
  2. After: complete the Catapult eValuate Test.
  3. Then: Use the computer to either continue researching, working on the next artifact of your project, or another component.
  4. Next: (if necessary) read/complete Into the Wild IR packet

Friday, September 18
Learning Target: W.11-12.2 Develop the topic thoroughly by selecting the most significant and relevant facts, extended definitions, concrete details, quotations, or other appropriate information.
Classwork
  1. Do Now: On the LEFT PAGE of your Notebook, create a graphic organizer that shows your central idea/theme, at least 4 artifacts that express some aspect of the central idea/theme, and how the artifacts are each connected.  An example is available on p. 336 of the Workbook. 
  2. After: Title the RIGHT PAGE of your Notebook Drafting: Combine elements to present your ideas. Write the date at the top-right. Copy the Target Practice below the title. You will score yourself at the end of class. Respond to the prompts on p.339 for today's RIGHT PAGE entry.
  3. Then: What is your primary research question? What is your thesis (the answer to this question)? This should be at the top of your Annotated Bibliography.
  4. Next: Work time for genre artifacts

Homework
  • Turn-in completed IR packet by 2:15 on Friday
  • Complete at least 4 Artifacts, Reflective Endnotes for each, Annotated Bibliography with at least 8 sources by class-time on Monday.
  • Looking Ahead: Socratic Seminar next week on themes from Into the Wild. Consider the lyrics to two of Eddie Vedder's songs from the film version: Long Nights, Society, and Hard Sun.
