Learning Target: RI.11-12.4 Determine the meanings of words and phrases as they are used in a text. RL.11-12.6 Analyze a case in which grasping a point of view requires distinguishing what is directly stated in a text from what is meant. SL.11-12.1 Initiate and participate effectively in a range of collaborative discussions.
Classwork
  1. Do Now: Staple the documents you received on the next LEFT PAGE of your notebook: purple bottom, white middle, orange top. Title the next RIGHT PAGE Socratic Seminar Notes, and date the top-right corner.
  2. After: In teams of 3, develop 9 questions you have about making an Annotated Bibliography while watching this video. Use your responses from the homework to help as well.
  3. Then: Socratic Seminar about the Annotated Bibliography...
      • Round 1: What is it?
      • Round 2: Why is it important for me to do on this project?
      • Round 3: What kind of sources might be the best for me?
  4. Next: Create Annotated Bibliography in Google Drive with the template provided, AND add Into the Wild as the first source. Need to find at least 3 more sources by class-time on Friday.
  5. During: Notebook Check #2- Aug. 18 to Sep. 4 (6 entries for Legendary Score)
Target Practice: I can create an Annotated Bibliography and explain it's purpose. Fist-5?
Homework
  • SHARE and SUBMIT Annotated Bibliography (at least four sources by the end of class on Friday- 1 can be Into the Wild)
  • Continue IR- page 5 due by Friday @ 2:15
Friday, September 11 (IN THE LIBRARY)
Learning Target: W.11-12.6 Use technology, including the internet, to produce, publish, and update individual or shared work. W.11-12.8 Gather relevant information from multiple sources using advanced search techniques.
Classwork
  1. Do Now: Attach the MLA Citation Guide to the next LEFT PAGE of your Notebook.  Title the next RIGHT PAGE EBSCO Questions. Fold your page in half. Title the left column Questions, and the right column Responses. You should write 5 questions that you or your table group have about using EBSCO. Write the answers as you listen to Mrs. Arcas' presentation.
  2. After: Presentation from Mrs. Arcas on using EBSCO.
  3. Then: If you did not get responses, ask Mrs. Arcas.  You should have 5 questions and 5 responses.
  4. Next: Annotated Bibliography Workshop time. YOU NEED AT LEAST 4 TOTAL BY THE END OF CLASS.
Target Practice: I can use EBSCO to help me find sources to use in my Multi Genre Research Project. Fist-5?
Homework
  • Continue Annotated Bibliography (at least eight sources by the end of class on Monday- 1 can be Into the Wild)
