Classwork
  1. Do Now: Finish Socratic Seminar Reflection (orange sheet from last week)
  2. After: Staple 'Multi-Genre Research Project' document on the LEFT PAGE of the notebook. You will look at this for homework, NOT NOW. Staple the 'Quarter 1, Week 6 of 10' document on the LEFT PAGE of the notebook. Read and annotate the document. There is NO RIGHT PAGE entry for today.
  3. Then: 10 minute group editing of Personal Essay (click here for the slideshow) and peer scoring.
  4. Next: 20 minute Reflection on Personal Essay (Pink Paper section of your Notebook)
  5. Time-permitting: Final revisions of Personal Essay
Target Practice: I can edit and and revise a final draft of my personal essay, as well as reflect on the writing process. Fist-5?
Homework
  • Make final revisions to the Personal Essay (I will be grading the Final on Wednesday evening)

Learning Target: RI.11-12.2 Determine two or more central ideas of a text and analyze their development over the course of the text. RI.11-12.3 Analyze a complex set of ideas or sequence of events and explain how they interact over the course of the text.
Classwork
  1. Do Now: Title the RIGHT PAGE Unpacking the Multi-Genre Research Project. Write today's date at the top-right corner.  Read and annotate the blue Multi-Genre Research Project document with your table-group.  Write at least three questions that your group has on the RIGHT PAGE. Leave space for answers.
  2. After: In table groups, read and annotate p. 301 in the Workbook. In your Notebook, fold the RIGHT PAGE in half to create two columns. Title the chart: Skills and Knowledge needed for Embedded Assessment 2. Below, title the left column Skills and the right column Knowledge. Listen to the whole class discussion to complete the chart.
  3. Then: Preview Sample Multi-Genre Research Project (Workbook pp. 308-324)
  4. Next: Setup Notebook Check #2: Aug. 18-Sept. 4 (I will be scoring next week)

Homework
  • SOCRATIC SEMINAR about the Multi Genre Research Project on Tuesday! Please make sure the homework is complete.
  • On the next left-side page, Create a 3-column chart titled Many Ways of Showing. Each column also has a heading: Chapter, Genre Used, Purpose of Using. Use the middle column to identify AT LEAST 3 different genres used in AT LEAST 5 CHAPTERS of Into the Wild. Use the right column to suggest why YOU THINK Krakauer used these genres instead of just continuing to explain.
  • Choose at least six genres that you would be comfortable creating from the list provided in class. Highlight them.
  • Complete IR packet p. 4 by Friday @ 2:15
