  1. Do Now: Preview the entire blog post for this week. Title the next page of your INB Quarter 2, Week 7 of 10. In a format that works best for you, use the entire page to organize:
      • today's focus, short-term activities, long-term activities, due dates
  2. After: Read and annotate EA 2 information sheet and rubric
    • Then: (10 min. timed-writing) Choose a topic from the EA 2 info. sheet list or one of your own choosing. Be serious, silly, inspiring- but not hurtful, demeaning, or disrespectful. No research required! Your speech must:
      • Identify/Define the problem that needs a solution
      • Make a strong claim for how to fix the problem or need
      • Show why your proposal will fix the problem or address the need
      • Demonstrate that your proposal is realistic, reasonable, sensible, etc.
    • Next: 30 sec. speeches- GO!
    Target Practice: I understand and can explain what is expected of me for the EA 2: Speech activity. Fist-5?

    Learning Target:  RL.11-12.1 Cite strong and thorough textual evidence to support analysis. W.11-12.2.B Develop the topic thoroughly by selecting the most significant and relevant facts.

    2. After: Use this graphic organizer to presearch your topic ideas
    3. Then: Ali (50 sec), Scent of a Woman (5 min. 20 sec.), Gettysburg Address (250 words) SB Workbook p. 179
    4. After: Commit to a topic on Google Classroom

    • Research at least two sources for your EA 2 Speech- Annotated Bibliography can be online or in print

    Learning Target: RI.11-12.9 Demonstrate knowledge of early-twentieth-century foundational works of American literature. W.11-12.1.D Establish and maintain a formal style and objective tone while attending to the norms and conventions of the discipline in which they are writing. W.11-12.9 Draw evidence from literary or informational texts to support analysis, reflection, and research.
    Classwork
    1. Do Now: Read and analyze the Inaugural Address of John F. Kennedy on SB Workbook pp. 185-7
    2. After: Complete LC 2.22 Writing Logical Comparisons activity on pp. 190-1
    3. Then: (10 min. timed writing) Draft a 30 second version of your speech. Remember, it must:
      • Identify/Define the problem that needs a solution
      • Make a strong claim for how to fix the problem or need
      • Show why your proposal will fix the problem or address the need
      • Demonstrate that your proposal is realistic, reasonable, sensible, etc.
    4. Next: Continue finding at least one more source for your topic (minimum 3 for EA 2)
    Target Practice: I can revise my short speech into a more robust draft using evidence from my research. Fist-5?

    • Revise your EA 2 speech using evidence from your research. A complete draft is due late next week (Dec. 8).
