- Do Now: Preview the entire blog post for this week. Title the NEXT LEFT page of your INB Quarter 1, Week 6 of 10. In a format that works best for you, take notes on:
- today's focus, short-term activities, long-term activities, due dates
- AT THE BOTTOM of the next RIGHT PAGE copy the target practice for today
- After: Introduce novel study for Quarter 1: Into the Wild by Jon Krakauer
- check-out books and make foldable note-taking guide:
- Four columns, hamburger style (should be about the size of a bookmark)
- Full Name, Period #, American Lit. at top of first column
- Title at top of first column: Into the Wild Notes
- Label and underline each column (front and back):
- New Words and Phrases
- Memorable Lines (@ least 8 w/ page #s)

- Then: (5 min) Scan the front and back covers of Into the Wild for new words and phrases while watching the film preview. Place the sticky note you received on the map as a reminder for tonight's homework.

- Do Now: Listen to the reading of the Author's Note from Into the Wild. Using the sticky note provided, write down one thing that you think will be interesting about the book.
- After: While listening to Chapter 1 of Into the Wild, Use the sticky note provided to write down why you think the author included the epigraph at the beginning of the chapter.
- Epigraphs serve as a kind-of subtitle for each chapter in this book. How can the subtitle of your EA 1 help the reader understand the main idea or theme of your essay?
- Then: With a partner, use the checklist on Springboard WB p. 365 to edit EA 1.
- Attach the checklist for your essay to the next LEFT PAGE of your INB. Reflect using the prompt at the bottom of the checklist on the next RIGHT PAGE.
