Learning Objective: RL.11-12.9, Read and comprehend literature in the 11-CCR complexity band with scaffolding as needed. 
Classwork
  1. Do Now: Attach Quarter 2, Week 6 of 10 to the next LEFT PAGE of your notebook.  Read and annotate using your chosen method.
  2. After: Fold the RIGHT PAGE of your notebook in half, making two columns. Title today's entry Literary Analysis: Comparing Analogous Time Periods. Write today's date at the top right of the page. Copy the target practice below the title. Title the columns: The Crucible (left) and Miller's Time (right). Attach the list provided in the right column.
  3. Then: While watching The Crucible, complete the left column to show events that connect to those in the right.
  4. Next: Attach Seminar Packet to the next LEFT PAGE of your notebook. Retitle the columns on the Questions page: The Role of Hysteria in Society, Are There Crucibles that Exist for People Today, and What Life Lessons Can Be Learned From EA 1: Scene About A Current Social Issue.
Target Practice: I can analyze The Crucible for it's relevance in Arthur Miller's time. Fist-5?
Homework
  • Finalize scene production and submit link- final submissions due by Tuesday @ midnight
  • Review The Crucible information sheet and arrive with questions/comments for Socratic Seminar on Wednesday

  1. Do Now: Form 2-3 person teams for Socratic Seminar and have pre-seminar discussions
  2. After: 3-round Socratic Seminar

    • What Life Lessons Can Be Learned From EA 1: Scene About A Current Social Issue
  3. Then: Socratic Seminar Reflection

Homework
  • Read and annotate Persuasive Speech Rubric for class on Friday. Be prepared for whole-class discussion.
  • 20-minute reflection writing: In the first section of your notebook, spend 20 minutes writing a reflection on your group project (EA 1: Social Issue Scene Production). Follow the directions on the pink sheet.
Friday, November 20
Learning Objective: RI.11-12.6, Determine an author's point of view or purpose. RI.11-12.1, Cite strong and thorough textual evidence to support analysis.
Classwork
  • Do Now: 20 minute independent reading time with dialectical journal #5 (DJ #4 graded).
  • After: Fold the next RIGHT PAGE of your notebook in half, then in half again (4 columns). Title the page EA 2: Sample Speech Scoring. Write today's date at the top-right of the page. Title each column as follows: Ideas, Structure, Language, Target Practice. Copy today's target practice into the last column. Score at the end of class.
  • Then: Individual scoring of the sample speech using the rubric.  The speech is Proficient in each category.  Your job is not to score, but to write in each column why it is proficient in that category using the language from the rubric. Annotate the rubric as you see fit (especially for unfamiliar words).
  • Next: Roundtable discussion about EA 2, scoring the example speech, and how this activity relates to EA 1.
Target Practice: I understand and can explain what is expected of me on Embedded Assessment 2: Persuasive Speech. Fist-5?
Homework
  • Research possible topics for your speech and e-mail a list of at least 3 topics to BOTH Mr. Fisher and Mr. Herendeen by class-time on Monday (Subject line should read: Speech Topics)
  • Complete your IR Letter of Intent, printed and signed, by classtime on Wednesday, November 18.
