Monday, August 10
Learning Objective: RL.11-12.1 Cite strong and thorough textual evidence to support a claim. L.11-12.6 Acquire and use accurately new words and phrases.
Classwork
  1. Do Now: Staple the 'Quarter 1, Week 2 of 10' sheet over your Personal Credo on the Left Page of your Notebook.  Make sure to mark the paper for important dates and information. On the Right Page, write today's date at the top-right corner.  Title Today's journal: Re-Searching for Meaning.
  2. After: On page 265 of your Workbook, work with your group to create a definition of Transcendentalism (write it in the My Notes section). Then, use the excerpt from "Self-Reliance" on pp. 258-9 to answer #2 on p. 265 in your Notebook. (If you've started reading Into the Wild, that is also a good source for answering the questions.)
  3. Then: Read In the Depths of Solitude, Remember, and A light Exists in Spring on pp. 266-68 and mark the text for Transcendentalist ideals. (time-permitting: watch/listen to Baz Luhrman's Sunscreen.)
  4. Next: Revising the Personal Credo (p. 271 Before Reading #2) and preparing for Socratic Seminar (Staple Soc. Sem. Packet on NEXT Left Page and begin Questions page)
Target Practice: I understand and can use transcendentalist ideas to create and/or revise my personal credo about life. Fist-5?
Homework
  • Retitle the 'Question' column headings of Socratic Seminar Packet: Transcendentalism, My Personal Credo, and Ideas for the Personal Essay. Create at least 5 questions for each column for use during Socratic Seminar on Wednesday.
  • Revise Personal Credo on the left page of today's journal entry OR create in a Google Doc
  • Independent Reading Packet p.1 due by 2:15 on Friday
  • Complete Signed Parent form and turn-in by Friday @ 2:15

  1. Do Now: On the Right Page opposite your Socratic Seminar Packet, write today's date in the top-right corner. Title today's journal Transcendentalism, My Personal Credo, and Ideas for the Personal Essay. This is where your coach's notes will be written during the Socratic Seminar.
  2. After: Personal Goal for the Day (Orange Sheet) and ground rules for seminar
  3. Then: 3 Round Socratic Seminar (5 min.-7 min.- 5 min.)
  4. Next: Reflecting on the Seminar (Orange Page)

  1. Do Now: Write today's date at the top-right of the NEXT RIGHT-side page. Title today's notebook entry: Reflecting on the STAR Assessment.
  2. After: Complete STAR Assessment (Click here from inside KKHS Network to begin)
  3. Then: Fold your notebook page for today in half, then in half again (4 columns). Title the columns: Done Well, Struggled With, Not a Clue, and Target Practice. Write as many items as you can remember in each of the first 3 columns. Copy the Target Practice in the last column, then give yourself a fist-5 score.
  4. Next: Independent Reading time (packet page 1 needs to be completed by 2:15 TODAY) OR work on personal essay draft
