  1. Do Now: Pick-up materials from the back of the room and find a seat. Read the blue student contract and think of questions.
  2. After: Group-share teacher-designated sections of student handbook or folder, syllabus, and goals sheet
  3. Then: Present the importance of your section
  4. Next: Assign Springboard Workbooks and read 'independent reading' section
  5. After: Distribute independent reading packet
  6. Then: Visit library for book-talk and independent reading choice

  1. Do Now: Write the date in the top-right corner of your journal, copy the orange highlighted part of the 'do now', and respond: Complete the personal info list below. Write the label, then respond to each.

This may be hand-written or typed (if typed, print a hard-copy to use in class)

  1. Do Now: Write today's date on the top-right corner of your journal. Then, copy the following prompt and respond in your journal: Define the word patriotism.
  2. After: create four columns in journals to practice using the four ways to create an extended definition: exemplification, function, classification, and negation.
  3. Then: practice using the following words: patriot, citizenship, duty, loyalty, honor
  4. Next: Read 'A Cause Greater Than Self' by John McCain and revise definitions
  5. After: Revise Definition Essay Drafts by looking for and adding exemplification, function, classification, and negation
