  1. Do Now: Last week you learned about existentialism and, hopefully, were able to see that this idea is what inspired Chris McCandless to find himself, his purpose, by going into the wild. In your INB, write about how the experience you are writing about for EA 1 helped you find your purpose. 
    • How did my experience help create or define who I am today? How did it help me live by the motto, or credo, that I have today? 
  2. After: Look at Google Classroom document for EA 1.
    • Then: Complete Drafting my Credo activity on WB pp. 327 (we will use this term now, instead of motto)
    • Next: Type the new credo into your EA 1 document on Google Classroom

    Classwork
    1. Do Now: Write the following definition of transcendentalism in your INB. After, write about how you've experienced this idea in life, your reading, your writing- anywhere. WRITE FOR THE ENTIRE TIME.
      • Transcendentalism: a philosophy that asks us to view each individual object in the natural world as a small version of the whole universe and to trust our own intuition and experience when interpreting their meaning. Transcendentalists often write about exploring nature, vast landscapes, battlefields, even individual blades of grass or grains of sand, as a way to understand the meaning of life.
    2. After: Complete Another Transcendental View on WB pp. 318-320 with a partner. You may use these color pictures, instead of the black & white ones in your book.
    3. Then: Complete the Setting a Purpose for Reading activity on WB p. 321 with Tupac Shakur's In the Depths of Solitude
    4. Next: (time-permitting) continue drafting EA 1

      1. Do Now: Flip to the LAST SECTION of your INB. Attach the Vocabulary instructions to the first page of it. Label the divider VOCABULARY. Read for understanding, annotate, and ask questions if necessary.
      2. After: Attach your hall pass to the INSIDE BACK COVER of your INB using tap- NO glue or staples. Write your name on it. Read for understanding and ask questions if necessary.
      3. Then: Introduction to personal narrative writing with A View from Mount Ritter by Joseph T. O'Connor. Add first word(s) to vocabulary list.
      4. Next: Go back to the first section of your INB and title the next page Understanding the Personal Narrative. Be sure to write today's date. In the time allowed, free write about why you think O'Connor wrote this story.
