Monday, August 28 or Tuesday, August 29
Due Today: Rough Draft of EA 1 in INB
Learning Target: W.11-12.2 Write informative/explanatory texts to examine and convey complex ideas, concepts.
Classwork
- Do Now: Last week you learned about existentialism and, hopefully, were able to see that this idea is what inspired Chris McCandless to find himself, his purpose, by going into the wild. In your INB, write about how the experience you are writing about for EA 1 helped you find your purpose.
- How did my experience help create or define who I am today? How did it help me live by the motto, or credo, that I have today?
- After: Look at Google Classroom document for EA 1.
- Then: Complete Drafting my Credo activity on WB pp. 327 (we will use this term now, instead of motto)
- Next: Type the new credo into your EA 1 document on Google Classroom
Homework
- Continue drafting EA 1 online or in your INB. The draft due Friday @ midnight, however, MUST BE TYPED.
- Continue reading Into the Wild at your own pace.
- Independent Reading- LET YOUR TEACHER KNOW BY EMAIL IF YOU WOULD RATHER READ ARTICLES LIKE ACHIEVE3000. I need to know by Friday if you would prefer this option, so that I can give you directions.
Wednesday, August 30
Due Today: Typed EA 1 credo
Classwork
- Do Now: Write the following definition of transcendentalism in your INB. After, write about how you've experienced this idea in life, your reading, your writing- anywhere. WRITE FOR THE ENTIRE TIME.
- Transcendentalism: a philosophy that asks us to view each individual object in the natural world as a small version of the whole universe and to trust our own intuition and experience when interpreting their meaning. Transcendentalists often write about exploring nature, vast landscapes, battlefields, even individual blades of grass or grains of sand, as a way to understand the meaning of life.
- After: Complete Another Transcendental View on WB pp. 318-320 with a partner. You may use these color pictures, instead of the black & white ones in your book.
- The Oxbow by Thomas Cole, 1836
- Kindred Spirits by Asher Durand, 1849
- Then: Complete the Setting a Purpose for Reading activity on WB p. 321 with Tupac Shakur's In the Depths of Solitude
- Next: (time-permitting) continue drafting EA 1
Target Practice: I understand how transcendentalism relates to Chris McCandless in Into the Wild. Fist-5?
