  3. Then: 3 Round Socratic Seminar about Arthur Miller's The Crucible
    • Round 1: The events of Arthur Miller's The Crucible were real. Why do you think they happened? How could such well-intentioned people be so consumed by hysteria?
    • Round 2: What kinds of hysteria exist today? Are there issues in the world so difficult to deal with right now that we only see them in movies, tv, plays, and books?
    • Round 3: EA 2 will be a speech you write about an issue of personal importance. Writers like Arthur Miller who used fiction to address issues of their day, paved the way for leaders like Martin Luther King, Jr., John F. Kennedy, and Nelson Mandella speak-out about issues of their day. What are some things you see happening at school, on Maui, in Hawaii, the U.S., or in the world that you would like to see change?
  4. Next: Formal written reflection on the effectiveness of today's seminar. Possible reflection topics may be:
    • Did I learn more than I knew coming-in to the seminar? What new insight did I gain?
    • Were different perspectives discussed? How informative were they?
    • If the seminar was not effective, what did I expect that didn't happen?

    • volume: the speakers voice gets louder or softer
    • pitch: the speaker's voice changes depth or frequency
    • speed: word's are spoken faster or slower

  4. Next: Perform speeches...reflect on what was learned in the lesson
